When it comes to building the backyard studio of your dreams, the process should not only be simple but fun. With Studio Shed’s 3D Design Center, the possibilities are endless. Learn all about how our prefabricated and easy-to-install backyard studios go from an idea to reality with our simple design process below!
DESIGN
It all starts with you. What do you want your backyard studio to look like? Consider what you will be using it for, then start crafting your design in our 3D Design Center. Design the exterior shell and even select interior finishes. You’ll get real-time costs for shipping and installation too. Site work is additional to the design estimate and handled locally.

SITE PLAN/PERMIT NEEDS
Most of our Signature Series backyard studios don’t require a permit if your structure is no larger than 120 square feet. Check with your municipality to determine whether you need a permit or not for the structure and/or electrical. Find out your property setbacks, any height limit, and allowed new lot coverage as well. A minimum of 3ft of clearance around the structure is needed for successful installation.
ORDER
Once you’re happy with your design, it’s time to place your order. Starting deposit is 50% down with 50% balance due two weeks prior to shipping. Payment options are credit card and ACH/e-check paid through the Design Center or online invoice. Financing options are credit card, ACH, and debit card made through the Design Center or an online Quickbooks invoice. Financing options are available through our partner Acorn Finance. Many customers often fund their projects with a HELOC or line of credit.
SHIP
Our solutions are a flat-packed, panelized kit of parts manufactured in Colorado and shipped to your front door! Your designated installer will schedule delivery and handle offload of the kit to the build site. Un-permitted orders typically ship in 6-8 weeks depending on the time of year. Site work such as foundation and electrical to the Studio are not included in the cost and are locally sourced.
INSTALL
Are you going to DIY (Do-It-Yourself) install or hire a contractor? Our prefabricated structures are easy to install and may be installed on a concrete monolithic slab or concrete piers/wood frame floor similar to a deck. Count on installation guides, videos, and phone support.
